1 YEAR OLD

It is hard to believe that an entire year (+ some) has passed since we brought our little Logan into the world! He has grown way too fast, learned so many cool things, and has developed the most loving, funny, individual personality! We are amazed at how smart he is and how much he understands even though he can't talk yet. I have a feeling that once he learns to talk, he'll never stop. He can babble, sing, and scream like a true Italian already! Definitely did not acquire mommy's vocal chords :) These are a few pics from his birthday and birthday party... enjoy!

Breaking a Habit

Since Logan was about 4 weeks old we've been swaddling him each time we lay him down for a nap or at night time. He looks like a little glow worm bundled up tight with his arms at his sides and just his little noggin poking out! (Really, it's sooo cute) But as he's approaching 11 months of age, it's been suggested that we begin to wean him out of this habit. Although I know this has been coming for some time (trust me, I thought about doing it when he was 6 months old, and each month after that!) it's one of those things that just reiterates that he's growing up, and WAY too fast I might add. So this weekend, I decided to take the plunge, risk him napping for shorter amounts of time, if at all, and lay him down for his naps without being swaddled. Overall, I must say, it's not as bad or as difficult as I thought it would be. That's more than likely thanks to the binky (I know, another habit I'll have to some day break). But he actually did fall asleep on his own! Yesterday it took about 45 minutes before he was quiet and I waited another 10 before checking on him. The pictures below are the position I discovered him in upon peeking at him during his afternoon nap. Poor little dude, I was tempted to wake him so that his legs didn't fall asleep and get all pins and needles-ish. Nevertheless, he woke up about 10 minutes after this picture. But today was even greater success! 30 minutes after putting him in his crib and he was sleeping like a baby and slept for almost the same amount of time that he did when he was swaddled... almost! Hopefully the trend continues and we can slowly transition into being unswaddled at night time too!

Spring and Such...

It finally feels like spring. It was about 80 degrees yesterday and in the 70's today! There's something magical about being able to lay a blanket on the grass and take a nap outside that just...sorry for sounding cheesy... calms my soul. It's probably scientific, you know, vitamin D from the sun and such. But I'm so glad I can enjoy the outdoors without a jacket and scarf! The best part is that Logan can enjoy it now too. I took him outside on an "adventure" where he discovered that grass is fun to pull, pine trees are pokey, and blossoms are fun to grab at! I'm excited for it to warm up a bit more so we can put those swim lessons to use and jump in the pool. I know everyone thinks their child/children are the cutest in the world, but I'm going to say it anyway. Partly because you haven't heard me say it in a while, and also because it's true... Logan is the cutest, happiest baby in the world!! It's no joke. He loves to play, sing to himself, and is oh so proud when he pulls himself up onto: the couch, the ottoman, the bathtub, mommy, daddy... anything! His face is so smiley that you can tell he's smiling even when his back is turned to you. He has such personality and reminds me everyday that it's a blessing to be alive, to see, to hear, to walk, to run, to crawl, to eat, to read, to laugh, to love. He's just learning about all those things that I so easily take for granted. And he LOVES to learn. He's so smart already! He remembers everything and after watching me do something, he tries to repeat it himself. I have to admit, I had heard that motherhood was incredible, but until I have experienced it for myself, I had no idea just how remarkable it really is. I am so grateful that I have been blessed to be Logi's mother. Sorry no pics with this post... I can't find the USB for my camera but I'll keep looking.

Alive

Life has been crazy, to say the least, but we are still alive. To briefly update - the weather here is insane: snowing one day, sunny and warm the next! My friend, Melanie, and I were talking about how it would be nice to put away seasonal clothes instead of having to leave them out because you never know when you'll need gloves and a scarf or just a t-shirt. We're supposed to have some snow next week... hello!?? it's freaking May! What ever happened to spring? Anyhow, still love Colorado!
I'm training to run the BoulderBoulder 10K on Memorial Day. It's the largest 10K in the country, hopefully I don't get run over! But I do enjoy a good run and today I took Logan with me... he slept in the stroller for over an hour! I'm so glad he enjoys being outside.
Speaking of what Logan enjoys... he and I just finished our Water Waddles, mommy and me, swim lessons. He loves the pool and did wonderfully! The only baby in the class who didn't cry when we dipped them under water :) I can't wait until summer when we can take him swimming and soak up the sun! He is 9 months old and crawling now... what?! That's right, crawling! He moves around like a little caterpillar, doesn't have the whole opposite arm and leg thing down yet. But it's stinking adorable and he can move really fast! He's also clapping, semi-waving hello and good-bye, giving the BEST slobbery kisses in the world, says "da-da", "ma-ma", and "na-na", LOVES to give head-butts (or "bonks" as we call them) and is trying to master the art of pulling himself up to a standing position.
Although he's very active and spunky, he still loves to cuddle with his momma which makes my heart melt! It'll be so nice to celebrate Mother's Day with him tomorrow.
Dan is in Washington D.C. enjoying the warm weather and taking in all the sites so it's just Logi and I for the next few days.
Not a whole lot of excitement going on. Just enjoying every minute with Logan. Here are some pictures Valeri took of him when he was 6 months and one of us at the beach in Cali. I'll post more recent ones next week, hopefully!
