Breaking a Habit
Since Logan was about 4 weeks old we've been swaddling him each time we lay him down for a nap or at night time. He looks like a little glow worm bundled up tight with his arms at his sides and just his little noggin poking out! (Really, it's sooo cute) But as he's approaching 11 months of age, it's been suggested that we begin to wean him out of this habit. Although I know this has been coming for some time (trust me, I thought about doing it when he was 6 months old, and each month after that!) it's one of those things that just reiterates that he's growing up, and WAY too fast I might add. So this weekend, I decided to take the plunge, risk him napping for shorter amounts of time, if at all, and lay him down for his naps without being swaddled. Overall, I must say, it's not as bad or as difficult as I thought it would be. That's more than likely thanks to the binky (I know, another habit I'll have to some day break). But he actually did fall asleep on his own! Yesterday it took about 45 minutes before he was quiet and I waited another 10 before checking on him. The pictures below are the position I discovered him in upon peeking at him during his afternoon nap. Poor little dude, I was tempted to wake him so that his legs didn't fall asleep and get all pins and needles-ish. Nevertheless, he woke up about 10 minutes after this picture. But today was even greater success! 30 minutes after putting him in his crib and he was sleeping like a baby and slept for almost the same amount of time that he did when he was swaddled... almost! Hopefully the trend continues and we can slowly transition into being unswaddled at night time too!
